Summer Sport

Athletics

Huguenot’s inter-house competition, where the Blue, White and Gold teams compete against one another with great enthusiasm for the team and spirit trophies, takes place annually.

Athletes who qualify for our athletics team, take part in various competitions during the athletics season. Here they get the opportunity to participate on regional, provincial and social levels.

Athletics are coached mainly during the first and fourth terms.

Athletics at Huguenot consists of nine items:

  • High jump
  • Long jump
  • Shot put
  • Discus
  • Javelin
  • Sprints
  • Hurdles
  • Middle distance races
  • Relays

Tennis

Here, at Huguenot, we try to develop the full potential of all tennis players in order to build character, self-image/confidence and develop their talents to the full. We wish to increase participation and to for them to get to their own best achievements according to their own unique talents and dedication.

We have two u/11 and u/13 boys’ and girls’ teams that take part in local leagues. Our u/13 A teams also take part in the prestigious Gerrie Berner tournament.

Coaching takes place at Huguenot Primary, Huguenot High and the Wellington Tennis Club courts. We are also privileged to have the highly skilled coaches of Tennis Republique as part of our tennis team.

There is the opportunity for learners, who do not play in teams, to develop their skills and to attend our practices for their specific age groups and skill levels.

Learners from gr.1 – 7 can take part in tennis.

Swimming

Our annual inter house gala, which takes place during the first term, is a highlight on our swimming calendar. It is also an opportunity where we can identify the members of our swimming team. This team practices weekly and represents our school at various league and other galas.

During the swimming season our swimmers practice in the Huguenot High’s swimming pool.

Cricket

Although cricket, such as rugby and hockey, is a team sport, we at Huguenot focus on development of individual batting, bowling and fielding skills. Our senior cricket teams practise weekly and successfully take part in league games and other tournaments each year.

Our u/7, u/8 and u/9 cricket players take part in mini cricket. They are given the opportunity to learn the basic cricket skills and to take part in tournaments.
